Rachmaninov’s mysterious and melancholic Trio élégiaque is followed by the light and playful La Muse et le Poète. This programmatic piece by Camille Saint-Saëns is a musical dialogue between the poet (represented by the cello) and his muse (represented by the violin) – with all the emotional ups and downs of a passionate relationship.
